8 Questions to Ask When Placing a 3D Print Order
A good 3D print result starts with a good quote. For the quote to be correct, the manufacturer must correctly understand your model and your expectations. The following eight questions eliminate uncertainties before ordering.
1. What material will be used?
PLA, PETG, ABS/ASA, TPU, or resin. The material directly determines strength, heat resistance, flexibility, and price. Stating where the part will be used makes correct material selection easier.
2. What will the layer height be?
The difference between 0,10 mm and 0,28 mm is significant in terms of surface smoothness and production time. A visual part and a mechanical part do not require the same precision.
3. What is the infill percentage and wall thickness?
These two values determine the part's strength. When comparing prices, make sure both quotes use the same settings.
4. Is support structure needed, and how will the marks be cleaned?
Support means extra material and extra labor. If support marks on visible surfaces are undesirable, this should be specified at the start of the order.
5. What will the tolerances be?
Especially for mating parts, clearance is critically important. The expected tolerance for parts that will be screwed, glued, or moved should be shared in writing.
6. Is post-processing included?
Support removal, sanding, filling, painting, and surface correction are separate labor items. It should be clarified whether these are included in the quote.
7. What is included in the price?
Material, machine time, electricity, labor, packaging, shipping, and KDV. Having these items listed separately makes the comparison meaningful.
8. What is the delivery time and revision policy?
The time in the production queue differs from rush production. Additionally, if a measurement error occurs in the first print, the process of how it will be handled should be discussed upfront.
How to Prepare a Good Order File?
- Send your STL or 3MF file, confirming its dimensions.
- Write the part's intended use and the conditions it will be exposed to.
- Add a reference image or sketch; describe your surface expectations.
- Clearly state the scale and quantity.
PrintFlow TR presents quote items separately and the ordering process runs from a single panel. Thus, the answers to these questions will be in writing in your hands.
